New rookie affiliate to be called Bristol Pirates

USA TODAY Sports

The Pirates' new rookie affiliate in Bristol announces that it will rename itself the Pirates. Bristol will unveil a new logo within a month or so.

The Pirates' U.S. minor-league affiliates now include two teams named "Pirates" (GCL and Bristol) and one named "Marauders" (Bradenton). The Bucs are remaking their system in their own image. Or, well, sort of -- John Dreker points out that all Appalachian League teams are named after their big-league affiliates. Anyway, it's about time Bristol announced the change -- their website, which proclaimed them the "Bristol White Sox" while calling themselves a Pirates affiliate, was kind of awkward, although I guess we got used to something similar in Indianapolis' case.

Here's the original story on the Pirates adding Bristol as an affiliate.
