Pirates complete Chris Stewart trade, send Kyle Haynes to Yankees

Justin K. Aller

The Pirates have dealt Kyle Haynes to the Yankees as the player to be named later in the Chris Stewart trade.

Given that the Yankees weren't planning on having Stewart on their roster next year, there was no reason to expect the PTBNL to be much of a prospect, and Haynes probably isn't. They drafted him in the 20th round in 2012, then had him pitch mostly in relief at West Virginia in 2013. He posted good numbers there, striking out 85 batters in 83.1 innings, and he apparently isn't a soft-tosser. But having a college pitcher work out of a Class A bullpen is a pretty strong sign that the team thinks of him as more of an organizational player.
