Still not much happening, but here's what we've got.
-P- ESPN ranks the Pirates' defense 10th-best in the majors (Insider-only). This came days after they ranked the Pirates' Burnett-less rotation fifth, which ... okay.
-P- Johan Santana is close to signing a minor-league deal, Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe writes. The Pirates had previously shown interest in Santana. Cafardo thinks he might sign with the Twins, which would make sense. In any case, Santana is a lottery ticket at this point, not a great rotation option.
-P- From the same article, the Pirates aren't the only team whose inactivity this offseason has been frustrating. There's also the Orioles, who have lost Jim Johnson and Scott Feldman and haven't done a whole lot else.
-P- The Orioles won't be trading prospect Eduardo Rodriguez for Ike Davis. as they shouldn't.
