Roundup: Yankees deal for Shawn Kelley

New, comments
Steven Bisig-US PRESSWIRE

-P- David Todd talks to Keith Law about the Pirates' farm system Wednesday afternoon.

-P- The Cardinals gave a well-deserved three-year extension to GM John Mozeliak and exercised manager Mike Matheny's 2014 option. After a playoff run last year and with perhaps the best farm system in the game, all is well in St. Louis.

-P- The Yankees acquired reliever Shawn Kelley, who had been designated for assignment, from the Mariners for non-prospect Abraham Almonte. Kelley's an extreme fly-ball pitcher who's a good bet to allow too many home runs, but he gets whiffs and throws strikes. You never know with relievers, and the Pirates have several interesting young ones, but I'd still like to see the Pirates acquire more depth in the bullpen, and Kelley would have fit the bill nicely.

-P- Brandon Inge should report to camp on Friday.
