The Cardinals have released Ronny Cedeno, which is remarkable given that, first, Cedeno hit well for the Mets last year and, second, the Cardinals already lost starting shortstop Rafael Furcal to injury. Pete Kozma will be the Cardinals' shortstop. (Note that this also means the Cardinals will be going with just one utility infielder, Daniel Descalso, on their bench. Pirates, take note.)
The Pirates could do a lot worse than to sign Cedeno to clarify their muddy and uninspiring infield-bench situation, but of course that won't happen -- Clint Hurdle isn't a big Cedeno fan.
