Pirates' relievers excellent in 5-3 win

USA TODAY Sports

The Pirates beat the Red Sox 5-3 on Saturday, thanks in part to five scoreless innings from the Pirates' relievers. The headliner was Vin Mazzaro, who's quietly still in camp -- he pitched two perfect innings against mostly starters, striking out five. Mark Melancon, Tony Watson (he's back!) and Nate Baker all contributed scoreless innings of their own. In total, the bullpen struck out nine batters and walked none.

Meanwhile, the Pirates scored one in the second on a homer by Garrett Jones, and four in the eighth, on two walks, a single, a groundout, and a two-run blast by Pedro Alvarez.
