The Pirates take on the Orioles tonight at 7:05. Here's the lineup:
Starling Marte CF
Jose Tabata LF
Neil Walker 2B
Pedro Alvarez 3B
Gaby Sanchez 1B
Brandon Inge DH
Jerry Sands RF
Michael McKenry C
Clint Barmes SS
Kyle McPherson P
-P- It occurs to me that the Pirates have 22 players in camp as non-roster invitees, and it's possible that not one of them will make the team. The Bucs could go with a bench of something like Michael McKenry, Gaby Sanchez, Jose Tabata / Travis Snider, Josh Harrison and Jordy Mercer. There also isn't anyone among the non-roster bullpen candidates who stands out, and the Bucs could easily go with a 'pen of something like Jason Grilli, Mark Melancon, Tony Watson, Jared Hughes, Justin Wilson, Bryan Morris and Chris Leroux. The non-roster invitees who have the best shot at making the team are probably Brandon Inge and Ivan DeJesus, since it's still not clear what the Pirates are going to do with their second-infielder bench spot.
-P- Jason Grilli picked up the save as Italy upset Mexico in the WBC.
-P- I did a video interview about the Bucs for SB Nation's Brew Crew Ball. Be sure to check out my incredibly-awkward answer to the last question, in which I struggle not to say, "I don't know, dude -- it's a blog."
