Altoona was rained out Wednesday and Bradenton's game has been delayed with the Marauders leading 3-2 in the 4th. I'll post an update once the latter is either finished or called.
-- After lasting only four innings in his first start, Gerrit Cole got through only two thanks to a high pitch count of 62. He got five of his six outs on strikeouts, but that only contributed to the high count. He allowed just one run on four hits, including a HR, and two walks. Indianapolis won anyway, 7-2 over Toledo. Ryan Reid followed Cole, giving up a run in three innings to get the win. Vic Black threw two scoreless innings, allowing no hits and two walks, and striking out one. He threw only 14 of 28 pitches for strikes. Brett Carroll led the offense, going 3-4 with two RBIs. Brandon Inge went 0-5 with three strikeouts. He's now hitting .087 in his rehab and has either struck out or grounded into a double play in 38% of his ABs. He's gone hitless in six of seven games.
-- West Virginia took a 4-0 lead into the 7th, only to have their struggling bullpen surrender 11 runs in the inning, leading to a 12-5 loss to Charleston. Clay Holmes started and overcame some control problems to throw five shutout innings. He walked four and allowed two hits, while fanning three. Dave Jagoditsh and Jason Creasy -- who'd pitched well in his first two games -- got charged with the 11 runs. The Power's defense didn't help, as they committed five errors. They now have 24 in seven games, leading their league by a wide margin. On the plus side, Josh Bell went 2-4 with a double and a three-run HR, his first.
UPDATE: Bradenton fell to 0-6, losing to Charlotte, 4-3 in ten innings. Robby Rowland started, but departed when a rain delay hit after he'd given up a leadoff single in the 4th. He allowed two runs on five hits and a walk, with two strikeouts. The score was 3-2 Marauders when Rowland left. Jhonathan Ramos followed the rain delay with four scoreless innings and Joan Montero with one, but Zach Thornton, acquired from Oakland for Chris Resop, blew the save by allowing a run in the 9th. Quinton Miller gave up a two-out, walkoff single in the 10th. The Marauders had only six hits. Gregory Polanco and Taylor Lewis each went 1-4 with a double and a walk.
