Pirates promote Bryan Morris, DFA Chris Leroux

Justin K. Aller

The Pirates have promoted reliever Bryan Morris and designated Chris Leroux for assignment.

Morris had pitched well in two outings for Indianapolis, but the key here was Leroux, who pitched very poorly in two appearances with the Pirates (striking out three and walking six in four innings). As I said after his last time out, he looked like a potentially useful pitcher in 2011, but since then, he's done little to earn his roster spot. My guess is that he'll get through waivers, although Alex Anthopoulos is still a GM as of 3:00 Friday afternoon, so who knows.

Anyway, Morris pitched very well for Indianapolis in 2012 and has a good fastball -- he should be a good addition to what already appears to be a pretty good bullpen. The Pirates will likely have to make some sort of move when Wandy Rodriguez's turn in the rotation comes up in a couple days, though, so it's possible Morris won't be around for long.

Kyle Waldrop will take Morris' place on the Indianapolis roster.
