A.J. Burnett will miss his start tomorrow with a right calf problem. Jeff Locke will pitch instead, and the Pirates will have to find someone else for Saturday.
Apparently Wandy Rodriguez and Jeanmar Gomez and James McDonald and Jeff Karstens and Phil Irwin and Kyle McPherson were having a party, and Burnett felt left out. The Pirates will have to find ... someone to start on Saturday (keeping in mind that Charlie Morton is going tonight). Someone like Graham Godfrey, who hasn't pitched recently and would be easy to DFA, might be an option if Burnett's injury isn't serious. The Pirates could turn to Andy Oliver, too, but that seems like a disaster waiting to happen right now, given his walk problems. Brandon Cumpton is another possibility, but I bet the Pirates won't want to add him to the 40-man if it's just for one start.
The Pirates haven't yet announced a move to add Morton to the active roster, and it's possible Burnett could be a part of that. We'll know within a couple hours.
UPDATE: Burnett has been placed on the DL.
