The Pirates have promoted Stolmy Pimentel to Indianapolis, Cory Giger reports. Pimentel got a fair amount of hype for his pitching at Altoona this year, and he has good stuff, but his underlying numbers frankly aren't appreciably better than they were last year at the same level (7.1 K/9, 4.1 BB/9 and 1.09 GO/AO this year versus 6.7 K/9, 3.3 BB/9 and 1.34 GO/AO last year). The issue, though, is that this his is last option year, so the Pirates need to see what they have. I'd be surprised if he were ready to contribute in the big-league rotation next year, but perhaps a bullpen role is a possibility.
