Not much action in the minors as nearly everyone was off in deference to The Exhibition Game. Altoona was the only full season team in action.
-- Altoona outhit Bowie, 9-4, but lost on the scoreboard, 3-2. Eliecer Navarro gave up just three hits and a walk in seven innings, but was charged with three runs. He struck out six. Alex Dickerson went 3-4 and Mel Rojas, Jr., 1-4, and each had a double. Gregory Polanco went 0-2 with two walks.
-- The GCL Pirates rallied for four runs in the top of the 9th to beat the Astros, 6-3. Reese McGuire went 2-5 and Ulises Montilla 1-2 with a double and three walks. Montilla's having an interesting year so far. He's hitting 304/431/536 and, although he's not a big guy, 12 of his 17 hits have gone for extra bases (11 doubles and a triple). He also has 13 walks to ten strikeouts. Austin Meadows went 1-4 with a triple, a walk and two strikeouts. Nick Buckner went 1-4 with a walk and three strikeouts. Wei-Chung Wang (pictured) allowed one run in four innings, on three hits and no walks. He struck out two.
-- The DSL Pirates1 took a doubleheader from the Yankees2, somehow scoring a total of nine runs on just four hits in the two games. The Pirates took game one, 4-1, despite getting only one hit . . . and that hit played no role in the scoring. Starter Jherson Esqueda threw four shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk, and fanning three.
The score in game two was 5-0. Julio De La Cruz went 1-3. Jandy Vasquez went five innings, giving up three hits and no walks, and fanning three.
No results were available for the DSL Pirates2.
