The Pirates have signed seventh-round pick Buddy Borden for $180,400, Jim Callis writes. That's exactly the bonus pool value of the pick. The Pirates now have all of their picks from the first 10 rounds signed. By my calculations, the Pirates have now spent almost $8.8 million (including the late-round signings of Nick Buckner and Billy Roth) against a bonus pool of $8.88 million, so I wouldn't expect anything crazy before the signing deadline.
Borden is coming off a strong junior season at UNLV. His fastball, which sits in the low 90s but reaches higher, appears to be his best pitch at this point. He'll likely be assigned to Jamestown.
