James McDonald struggles in rehab

Monday's action, with Bradenton off:

-- Indianapolis lost to Syracuse, 6-2.  Graham Godfrey gave up four runs in five innings.  Duke Welker gave up a run on three hits in two innings.  He struck out one.  Alex Presley, Felix Pie and Ivan De Jesus, Jr., each went 2-4.  De Jesus had a double and Pie his eighth HR.

-- Altoona split a doubleheader with Reading.  The Curve lost game one, 4-2.  Nick Kingham gave up two runs in five innings.  He allowed eight hits and two walks, and fanned seven.  Tyler Waldron gave up two unearned runs in the 7th, breaking a 2-2 tie.  Alen Hanson went 0-3 and Gregory Polanco 1-3.  Travis Snider went 1-3 in his first rehab game.

The Curve won game two, 3-2.  Polanco went 2-3 with a double.  Quinton Miller got a spot start and allowed one run in four innings.

-- West Virginia blew a 3-2 lead when Cesar Lopez gave up two HRs and three runs in the top of the 9th, giving Hickory a 5-3 win.  Kyle Haynes had a strong start, giving up two runs, one earned, in seven innings.  He allowed three hits and a walk, and struck out seven.  Dilson Herrera had a double in four ABs.  Josh Bell didn't play.

-- Jamestown edged Auburn, 8-7.  The Jammers sat a number of their regulars, but still had a dozen hits.  Edwin Espinal (pictured) had a double and his first HR, and drove in four.  Adam Frazier went 2-3 with a walk and drove in three.  Wyatt Mathisen moved up a level and went 2-3 with two walks.  Candon Myles, who also was recently promoted, went 1-3 with a triple and two walks.  Cody Dickson had a rough start, giving up five runs in three and two-thirds innings.  Two of the runs scored after he came out.  Dickson walked two and fanned none.

-- The GCL Pirates beat the Yankees2, 3-2.  James McDonald made a rehab start and recorded only two outs.  He allowed two runs on two hits and a walk, and struck out one.  Five relievers followed with eight and a third scoreless innings.  Blake Taylor recovered from a bad outing to throw three scoreless innings.  He gave up two hits and a walk, and struck out three.  Mervin Del Rosario fanned five in three scoreless innings.  Austin Meadows went 1-3 with a double and Reese McGuire 1-4.

-- The DSL Pirates1 routed the Yankees2, 11-3.  Dennis Hurtarte went 4-5, Sandy Santos 2-4 with a triple and four RBIs, and Ramses Pena and Deybi Garcia both 2-4.

-- The DSL Pirates2 won their 13th straight, beating the Cubs, 2-1.  Dario Agrazal, who seems to be something of a prospect, threw five scoreless innings, giving up two hits and three walks, striking out two.  Jose Salazar went 2-4 with two doubles and Alexis Bastardo 2-4 with one double.  Michael De La Cruz extended his hitless streak to 24 ABs, although he walked twice.
