Indianapolis was off on Wednesday.
-- Altoona got stomped by Reading, 8-0. Jarek Cunningham went 3-4 with a triple. Gregory Polanco went 0-3 with a walk and Alen Hanson 1-3 with a double and a walk. Starter Nate Baker's dismal season continued.
-- Bradenton beat Jupiter, 4-3. Wrapping up Marauders' games has pretty much devolved into the daily How-Many-Times-Did-Stetson-Allie-Whiff? report. Only today it was none, so I don't have that to report. He went 1-2 with a walk. It's just not an interesting team. Joely Rodriguez allowed one run on three hits and three walks in five innings, striking out three. Benji Gonzalez and Elias Diaz each had a single and a double. Whatever.
-- West Virginia beat Charleston, 7-4. Josh Bell hit a three-run HR, his 12th, and Jimmy Rider hit his first. Max Moroff, Jordan Steranka and Raul Fortunato each had two hits. Jason Creasy (pictured) continued pitching well, allowing just two unearned runs in five innings. He gave up four hits, walked none and fanned five. Ryan Hafner allowed two runs, one earned, in three innings. He gave up four hits and struck out one. Now that's a team worth following.
-- Jamestown beat Mahoning Valley, 3-1. Shane Carle gave up one run in three and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and two walks, and fanning four. Soft-tossing Jackson Lodge fanned five while allowing no hits or walks in two and a third innings. For the game, the Jammers had 13 punch outs. They had only four hits, two by Adam Landecker, but they drew six walks and stole six bases. Candon Myles had three walks and two steals.
-- The GCL Pirates routed the Tigers, 11-1. Nick Buckner had a walk, a double and his first pro HR in four ABs, and drove in five runs. Enyel Vallejo went 2-5 with four RBIs and Ulises Montilla went 4-5 with a double. Austin Meadows went 0-3 with two walks and Reese McGuire 1-5. Wei-Chung Wang gave up one run in four innings on four hits and no walks. He struck out four.
-- The DSL Pirates1 lost to the Mets2, 10-6. Dennis Hurtarte went 2-3. Rudy Guzman, Luis Benitez and Jesus Ronco all had two hits apiece.
-- The DSL Pirates2 split two games with the Reds, breaking the Bucs' 14-game winning streak. The first game was, I think, the continuation of a suspended game. The Reds won it, 4-1, on a walkoff HR in the bottom of the 10th. Michael De La Cruz went 2-5.
The Pirates2 won the regularly scheduled game, 8-5. Alexis Bastardo hit his second HR, and Eduardo Figueroa and Carlos Munoz each had a single and a double.
