Links: Kershaw, Duke, Barajas, Thornton

Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE

-P- The Dodgers have signed Clayton Kershaw to a seven-year, $215 million extension. That's a pretty good deal for the Dodgers, actually, even though it's the biggest new-money deal ever for a pitcher and Kershaw has an out clause that allows him to void the contract after five years.

-P- Zach Duke has signed a minor-league deal with the Brewers. It's hard to believe he's still only 30 -- his days as a Pirate seem like a lifetime ago. In the three years since he left, he's only pitched about 120 big-league innings.

-P- Rod Barajas will be a minor-league coach with the Padres next season.

-P- The Pirates have invited Jameson Taillon, Zach Thornton, Matt Hague and Carlos Paulino to spring training. This news actually came out yesterday, but it was so unsurprising that I didn't even bother to mention it here. Thornton's season will be an interesting one to watch, though -- it'll be curious to see if he can establish himself as a semi-prospect even after other teams passed on him in the Rule 5 draft.
