Brewers to sign Matt Garza

Four years and $52 million. This is a pretty nifty step forward for Milwaukee, whose rotation was a weakness. That's a reasonable price for Garza, too, and the Brewers won't have to give up a draft pick.

Throughout the offseason, I'd been comforted somewhat that, although the Pirates weren't upgrading, other NL Central teams weren't upgrading, either. But it appears that's changed. Jhonny Peralta is still probably the highest-impact signing in the division this offseason, but Garza is a solid second place. The Brewers don't look like a pushover this season -- it wouldn't be that surprising if they finished with a winning record.

Anyway, this is the first domino to fall now that Masahiro Tanaka's situation is finally resolved. I'd expect Ervin Santana and Ubaldo Jimenez to sign soon, too.
