The Rays, Pirates, Brewers and Astros all made similar offers to James Loney, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune tweets. Loney got three years and $21 million from the Rays, and elected to stay in Tampa.
The Pirates, obviously, are still without a good option at first base, at least against right-handed pitching. It's good to know they at least bid competitively for Loney, who isn't a great player but was a good match for their needs.
