The Pirates have agreed to terms with Radhames Liz, the Dominican winter ball team Estrellas de Oriente reports (link in Spanish). The deal is two years and $3 million, as had previously been reported. I haven't seen anyone officially call that a big-league deal, but I've never heard of a minor contract for two years and that much money.
Liz dominated with Estrellas de Oriente, striking out 29 batters and walking five in 23.2 innings, and the article above notes that he was throwing 97-98 MPH. Estrellas' manager is Indianapolis skipper Dean Treanor, who may have suggested the Pirates give Liz a look. Liz has never had success in the big leagues and has always had control issues, but he's improved those somewhat in the last few years in Korea. The Pirates evidently feel he can contribute, likely as a righty out of the bullpen. There's little to do now but see if they're right.
