Links: Andrew McCutchen's trade value still incredibly high

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

It's been a couple days since our last update, so here's the latest from around the game:

-P- The Dodgers claimed Ryan Lavarnway, who I'd thought might be a good fit for the short end of the Pirates' first base platoon.

-P- The Yankees signed Andrew Miller to the largest contract ever for a reliever who doesn't close, and they also acquired Didi Gregorius from the Diamondbacks to replace Derek Jeter at shortstop.

-P- Jonah Keri writes that Andrew McCutchen has more trade value than any player in baseball other than Mike Trout. Also included among the 50 most valuable players in the game are Gerrit Cole, Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco, an excellent showing for one organization. Dave Cameron of Fangraphs posted about the same topic, also ranking McCutchen second.

-P- A Phillies blogger makes the case for his team acquiring Kyle Blanks, a move that would seemingly make sense for many teams.

-P- David Todd chats with Clint Hurdle.
