Pirates claim Josh Lindblom, outright Angel Sanchez

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Pirates have announced that they've claimed righty Josh Lindblom from the Athletics and outrighted fellow pitcher Angel Sanchez to Indianapolis.

Lindblom, 27, spent most of the 2014 season with Triple-A Sacramento, where he posted poor numbers as a starter. He was fairly good as a reliever with the Dodgers in 2011 and 2012, so if the Pirates see much in Lindblom (as opposed to just continuing with the claim-everything-that-moves game they've been playing the last few months), I bet it's as a reliever. If not, he might or might not provide minor league depth for a couple of months before the Pirates designate him in favor of the next arm to come along.

Speaking of the claim-everything-that-moves game, you're forgiven for not knowing who Angel Sanchez is, or for quietly suspecting I just made him up. He made six appearances with Altoona after the Pirates claimed him from the White Sox near the July trade deadline.
