Pirates lose 4-2 to Blue Jays

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Gerrit Cole and Jameson Taillon pitched two innings apiece Friday, but the Pirates lost 4-2 to the Blue Jays.

The Jays got two off Cole in the first. Munenori Kawasaki hit a ground-ball single, stole second, and came home on a single by Colby Rasmus. Rasmus then scored on Dioner Navarro's double. Cole then struck out two batters in the second inning. Taillon pitched the next two innings and did not allow a run.

The Pirates got one back on an RBI single in the second by Matt Hague (who's back to his spring Hit Collecting). They got another in the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Pedro Alvarez and Gaby Sanchez. The Jays took the lead in the fifth, however, when Andy Oliver walked the bases loaded and then allowed an RBI groundout.

The late innings saw appearances from Brent Morel (who went 1-for-2 in his Pirates debut), Alen Hanson, Willy Garcia, and 2013 late-rounder Jeff Roy, among others.
