The Phillies are not likely to sign A.J. Burnett, Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports. Note that this is about the Phillies, not the Pirates.
"I don’t suspect we’ll be doing anything," [Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr.] said Friday. "I think we’ve got what we’ve got. I suspect we’ll go into the season with what we’ve got – or at least spring training with what we’ve got. We’re always looking, always trolling. I know there are guys out there, but I don’t suspect us having anything major coming through."
First, note that Amaro continues to use the word "trolling" to describe the process of acquiring players. Second, note that the Phillies were one of the non-Pirates teams most frequently connected to Burnett, the other being the Orioles. Burnett's offseason home in Monkton, Maryland is about two hours from Philadelphia.
That's all I've got, folks. A report on another team probably not acquiring a player we think the Pirates should re-sign. But you've got your A.J. Burnett thread. You're welcome.
