Pirates send Taillon, Hanson to minor-league spring training

David Manning-USA TODAY Sports

The Pirates have sent six players to minor-league spring training: catcher Carlos Paulino, first baseman Matt Hague, infielder Alen Hanson, and pitchers Jameson Taillon, Casey Sadler and Joely Rodriguez. Hanson and Rodriguez were optioned to Altoona, Sadler to Indianapolis.

None of those six were expected to make the team, although Taillon and Sadler are good bets to earn callups at some point this year. Hanson will probably debut at some point in 2015, while Rodriguez is a long way from the majors. If you're Hague, it's probably pretty frustrating to be an early cut after making the team out of camp a couple years back, but he's just a minor-league veteran at this point.

The Pirates now have 53 players in camp.
