Via Bill Brink, Chris Stewart had knee surgery today, and it looks like it could keep him out as little as four to six weeks. It had previously sounded like Stewart might need to be out for much longer. That wouldn't have been such a big deal, but it would have meant the Pirates wouldn't get the benefit of his pitch-framing skills during that time, and that they would have to look out for catching depth. If he's going to come back in, say, early May, depth no longer seems like such an issue. The Pirates can surely just get by until then with Russell Martin, Tony Sanchez and their existing Triple-A depth, then option Sanchez back to Indianapolis when Stewart returns.
