The Pirates have recalled Casey Sadler from Triple-A Indianapolis. To make room on the 25-man roster, Jared Hughes has been optioned back to the Indians.
While in Indianapolis this year, Sadler has pitched 27 innings, with 16 strikeouts, a .852 WHIP, and a 1.67 ERA. Sadler is 23 years old and was drafted in the 25th round of the 2010 draft. This is his first time in the Major Leagues.
The move is likely prompted by the need to bolster a bullpen that was pressed into seven innings of work yesterday.
