Pirates MiLB recap: 4/9/14

Jeff Locke struck out a bunch in a rehab outing, while Casey Sadler and Reese McGuire had standout games.

-- Indianapolis held on to beat Toledo, 8-6.  Sadler (pictured) gave up two runs on five hits and two walks in seven innings, striking out five.  Andy Oliver allowed four runs in one inning.  Jared Hughes got the last three outs for the save, but allowed three inherited runners to score.  Brent Morel and Andrew Lambo each went 2-4 with a double and a walk.  Chris Dickerson went 2-4 with a HR and a walk.  Gregory Polanco went 1-5.

-- Altoona lost to Akron, 5-4.  Zack Dodson struggled, allowing all five runs, four earned, in four innings.  Joan Montero and Jhonathan Ramos each threw two scoreless innings in relief, fanning two and three, respectively.  Andy Vasquez went 2-4 with a double and a HR.  Elias Diaz also went 2-4, and Gift Ngoepe 2-5 with a double.  Alen Hanson was 1-5 with a double.  Stetson Allie and Willy Garcia combined to go 0-8 with five strikeouts.

-- Bradenton dropped a 3-1 game to Palm Beach.  Locke went six innings in his first rehab appearance.  He gave up two runs on five hits and a walk, and fanned ten.  Locke threw 59 of 82 pitches for strikes.  Josh Bell went 2-4 with a double.

-- West Virginia lost to Asheville, 5-3.  McGuire went 3-4 with a double and picked a runner off first.  Erich Weiss went 2-3 and JaCoby Jones 1-3 with a triple.  Shane Carle gave up two runs, one earned, in five innings on six hits and no walks.  He fanned six.
