Pirates MiLB recap: 5/13/14

An early finish cost Gregory Polanco a shot at a cycle -- he apparently can't control the weather -- and Altoona broke out the bats.

-- Indianapolis jumped on Red Sox prospect Rubby de la Rosa for six early runs and took a 6-2 win from Pawtucket in a game that was stopped due to rain with one out in the bottom of the 6th.  Polanco went 4-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs.  He had half the Indians' hits and played a hand in all but one of their runs, and is now hitting .378 with 35 RBIs in 37 games.  Chris Dickerson went 2-3 with a walk.  Brandon Cumpton went a shaky six innings, allowing the two runs on seven hits and four walks, with just one strikeout.

-- Altoona hammered Birmingham, 10-3.  Gift Ngoepe (pictured) drove in four runs, going 2-4 with a walk and his third HR.  Alen Hanson went 2-5 with a triple; Mel Rojas 2-5 with a double; Stetson Allie 1-4 with a walk, his seventh HR and a strikeout; Willy Garcia 3-5 with a double; and Keon Broxton 2-4 with a walk and his fourth HR.  Rojas is now hitting 306/380/440 and Broxton 293/383/537.  Zack Dodson returned from an oblique injury and threw three innings, giving up a run on four hits and a walk, with two strikeouts.

-- Bradenton got blanked by Lakeland, 3-0.  The Marauders managed only four hits, with Josh Bell going 1-4.  Starter John Kuchno gave up three runs, two earned, on five hits and four walks in five innings.  He struck out five.

-- West Virginia blew a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the 9th as Brett McKinney gave up a three-run HR to tie the game and then a walk-off two-run shot, leaving the Power on the short end of a 7-5 score against Greenville.  Starter Dovydas Neverauskas allowed two runs in five innings on three hits and three walks.  He fanned two.  Harold Ramirez was 1-4 and Erich Weiss 2-4, and each had a double.  JaCoby Jones went 1-5 and Wyatt Mathisen 0-4.
