MLB mock draft: Jim Callis has Pirates picking Monte Harrison

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Jim Callis' latest mock draft for MLB.com has the Pirates selecting Missouri high school outfielder Monte Harrison.

While Pittsburgh is loaded with multi-tooled outfielders at the Major League and Minor League levels, another one like Harrison or Wilson could be the best player on the board at No. 24. The other option might be an advanced college hitter such as Gillaspie, Fisher or Kentucky first baseman A.J. Reed.

Harrison has upside at the plate but seems to be a bit of a work in progress, which scares me a little bit for a hitter, even one out of high school. Everyone seems to love his power potential and all-around upside, though. He's committed to play both football and baseball at Nebraska, which means he'll probably get a fair number of Bubba Starling comparisons (whether that's fair or not). He has a runs well and has a very strong arm, and that latter quality may mean he'll end up in right field. Obviously, the fact that he's an outfielder will have little impact on the Pirates' thinking.
