Pirates still interested in acquiring first baseman

Mitchell Layton

Nick Cafardo reports that the Pirates are still interested in acquiring a first baseman even after the Ike Davis trade. If true, that's ... a little weird, not because Davis is any great shakes, but because they acquired him in part because there weren't obviously many options on the market that were better than him. If the Pirates can manage to contend into July, maybe other options will become available then. Cafardo notes that the Pirates think Kendrys Morales is primarily a designated hitter, so they won't be signing him.

Davis has hit .205/.279/.333 in his brief time with the Pirates, not that that should have much impact on their thinking either way.
