Pirates promote Michael Martinez, demote Sadler

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Pirates have announced that they've promoted infielder Michael Martinez to the bigs and demoted Casey Sadler to Indianapolis.

The Bucs need another infielder with Josh Harrison on the shelf, and the fact that they picked Martinez strongly suggests that this will be a short-term arrangement. Martinez has hit terribly for Indianapolis, with a line of .229/.279/.317. The Pirates will be able to designate Martinez for assignment within a few days without losing any sleep. Ordinarily, they might have just promoted Brent Morel, but Morel only returned yesterday from an injury

Sadler isn't eligible to come back up again for another ten days, so he won't be helping out the Pirates' rotation this weekend.
