Pirates MiLB recap: 6/14/14

Jamestown got another good debut and Reese McGuire had a career first, but there was some disastrous pitching in the farm system. Bradenton was off.

-- Jay Jackson failed to get through the 1st inning as Indianapolis got hammered by Durham, 9-2.  Robert Andino went 2-4 with two doubles.  Matt Hague drove in both runs and also pitched a scoreless 9th.

-- Altoona lost to Reading, 5-2.  Alen Hanson went 2-4 and Andy Vasquez hit his fourth HR.  Joan Montero made his first start of the year, allowing a run in four innings.

-- A four-run rally in the 7th fell short and West Virginia lost the first game of its doubleheader with Delmarva, 6-4.  Cody Dickson pitched decently after a bad first inning.  Overall, he allowed three runs in five innings.  He gave up five hits and two walks, and fanned four.  Wyatt Mathisen was 2-3 and Kawika Emsley-Pai hit his first HR.  JaCoby Jones and Harold Ramirez each went 1-3.

Dovydas Neverauskas got torched for eight runs in less than two innings as the Power also lost game two, 14-5.  The loss extended their losing streak to 13 games and dropped their record to 20-47.  McGuire was 2-3 with his first pro HR.  Edwin Espinal was 3-4 with a double, Mathisen 2-3 with a triple and a walk, and Chris Diaz 2-4 with a double.

-- Jamestown got its first win, 4-1 over Mahoning Valley.  Starter Marek Minarik (pictured) threw four scoreless innings.  He gave up one hit and three walks, and fanned three.  In case you're wondering, Minarik is a 6'7" RHP from the Czech Republic whom the Phillies released after just 20 pretty decent innings.  Taylor Gushue went deep for the second day in a row.  Overall he was 1-4 with two strikeouts.  Michael Suchy made his pro debut, going 2-3 with a triple and a walk.

-- MiLB.com had no report yet on the DSL Pirates' game.
