Pirates MiLB recap: 6/27/14

Casey Sadler had a strong outing and Adrian Sampson didn't. Bradenton and Bristol were rained out.

-- Indianapolis pounded out 18 hits in a 7-2 win over Durham.  Jaff Decker (pictured) was 4-5 with three doubles, Chris Dickerson 4-6 with a triple and Robert Andino 3-5 with a double.  Sadler threw seven shutout innings, giving up seven hits and one walk, and striking out three.

-- Altoona lost to Binghamton, 8-2.  Sampson had probably his worst start of the season, giving up seven runs on eleven hits in six and a third innings.  He walked one and struck out six.  Willy Garcia was 2-3 with a double.  Alen Hanson returned from his undisclosed location to go 1-4 with a double.

-- West Virginia benefited from eight walks in beating Lakewood, 6-2.  Shane Carle allowed two runs on three hits and two walks in seven innings.  He struck out four.  Buddy Borden picked up the save in his first relief appearance of the season.  He threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks, and fanning four.  Edwin Espinal was 1-3 with a walk and his fourth HR.  Jeff Roy was 2-4.  Wyatt Mathisen came out of the game after a play at third.

-- Jamestown beat Mahoning Valley, 4-2.  Carl Anderson, Michael Suchy, Michael Fransoso and Tyler Filliben all had two hits.  Filliben and Anderson each had a double.   Taylor Gushue was 0-1 with four walks.  He's now hitting 289/441/689.  Montana DuRapau made his first start, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits in four innings.  He walked none and struck out four.  Jared Lakind fanned four in two scoreless innings to pick up the save.  Jordan Luplow left for a pinch hitter in the 2nd inning, so he may be hurt.

UPDATE:  Luplow was helped off the field after a bad collision with Filliben.

-- The GCL Pirates scored three times in the bottom of the 8th to top the Astros, 5-2.  Nick Hutchings went five innings, allowing two unearned runs, seven hits and one walk, while striking out two.  Remy De Aza struck out three in two perfect innings of relief.  Nelson Jorge was 2-4 with a triple, Tito Polo! 2-3 with a double, and Luis Benitez 2-3.  Dan Gamache, in the GCL on rehab, was 2-4.  Michael De La Cruz was 1-3 and Julio De La Cruz 1-4.

-- The DSL Pirates beat the Rangers2, 8-2.  Adrian Valerio and Felix Vinicio each went 2-4.  Sandy Santos was 2-4 with two triples.  Richard Mitchell allowed two runs over five innings.  He gave up three hits and a walk, and fanned two.
