With their pick in Comp Round B (No. 73), the Pirates took Trey Supak, a high school pitcher from Texas.
MLB.com ranked Supak the No. 62 prospect in the draft. Baseball America ranked him No. 99. He just turned 18, and he's 6-foot-5 and throws 88-92 MPH, so he looks like a projectable young arm all the way. He does, of course, appear to be light years from the majors. Baseball America says his fastball is a bit straight, but that his curve and change have the potential to be decent. He went to the same high school (La Grange) as Homer Bailey. This appears to be a totally reasonable pick at No. 73, and Supak could be an over-slot candidate given his commitment to the University of Houston, although we still haven't seen much that really explains what the Pirates did with their first two picks.
