Pirates MiLB recap: 6/6/14

Gregory Polanco homered to start a game and Josh Bell homered to (sort of) end one, while the Pirates came one step closer to getting an injured reliever back.

-- Polanco led off the game with his seventh HR, but that was all the offense for Indianapolis as the Indians lost to Syracuse, 5-1.  Polanco finished 1-3 with two walks.  Tyler Waldron allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits in four innings.  Chris Dickerson returned from the disabled list and went 2-2 with two walks.  Mel Rojas was 1-2.

-- Altoona hammered Trenton, 11-2.  Gift Ngoepe (pictured) went 4-4 with two doubles and a walk, and Keon Broxton was 3-5 with two doubles.  Alen Hanson was 2-6 with a double and three RBIs and Stetson Allie 1-4 with a walk.  Stolmy Pimentel started the game, his second rehab appearance, and threw three scoreless innings.  He gave up three hits, walked one, and fanned five.

-- Bell hit his sixth HR in the top of the 12th to give Bradenton a 5-4 win over Brevard County.  The longball was Bell's only hit in six ABs.  Jose Osuna went 2-4 with his second HR and a walk.  Starter Jason Creasy struggled early, but recovered to last seven innings.  He gave up four runs, only one of them earned, on eight hits.  Creasy walked none and fanned three.  Thomas Harlan got the win with four shutout innings in relief.  He gave up four hits, walked none and fanned four.

-- West Virginia lost to Hickory, 10-3.  Starter Buddy Borden allowed six runs on eight hits and four walks in five innings.  He struck out only one.  Harold Ramirez and Chris Diaz each went 2-4 with a double.  Reese McGuire went 0-4 and is 0-13 in his last four games.  JaCoby Jones went 0-3 with three strikeouts, then exited for a pinch hitter.

-- MiLB.com had no report on the DSL Pirates' game.
