Gerrit Cole: 'I don't see this as a huge issue'

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Gerrit Cole spoke with the media for a few minutes after today's game:

Echoing what Neal Huntington said earlier in the afternoon, Cole confirmed that none of the tests that have been taken so far have shown structural damage to his shoulder, only fatigue.

He described the onset of the pain in his shoulder as "gradual." "I just didn't bounce back like I wanted to after my last start."

Cole expressed confidence that there was not a larger problem with his shoulder.

"I don't see this as a huge issue," Cole said. "We're on the right path. I feel much better than I did a few days ago."

The decision to place him on the disabled list was "made in the best interests of the team," he said. "Tackle this now and deal with it, rather than prolonging it ... It's frustrating, but at the same time, hopefully we can nip this in the bud as it is right now."

Cole said that he has never experienced something like this in the past. "I just couldn't bounce back [after the last start]," he said.
