Austin Meadows to join West Virginia Power

USA TODAY Sports

Top 2013 draft pick Austin Meadows is finally joining the West Virginia Power after a handful of rehab games in the GCL and in Bristol.

It's been a tough season for Meadows, who has missed three months with a hamstring injury, and it would have been nice to see him get more time this season at West Virginia. Many 19-year-old prospects don't start their seasons until June anyway, since that's when the short-season leagues start. But that wouldn't have been Meadows path if he'd been healthy, and he's missed several months of practice regardless.

Meadows hit .316/.424/.554 between two short-season levels last year. He's one of the Pirates' best hitting prospects, or maybe the best (depending on how you rate Josh Bell at this point), so it will be interesting to see how he performs in the last couple months of the Class A season.
