The Matt Morris Report: 7/16/14

Another day of light action, as Indianapolis and Altoona were off, and Bradenton and the GCL Pirates were rained out.

-- West Virginia dropped Hagerstown, 6-1.  After some lengthy struggles, Cody Dickson (pictured) had his fourth straight good start, holding the high-scoring Suns to one run in six innings.  He gave up four hits and two walks, and fanned five.  JaCoby Jones went 2-3 with a walk and his 15th HR, extending his hitting streak to 17 games.  Austin Meadows was 2-5, Edwin Espinal 2-5 with a double, and Chris Diaz and Danny Collins each 2-4.  Reese McGuire was 0-5.

-- Jamestown won its fifth straight, beating Brooklyn, 5-2.  Michael Suchy was 2-3 with a double and Tyler Filliben 2-4.  Starter Frank Duncan allowed two runs on six hits over five innings.  He walked none and struck out three.

-- Bristol was on the wrong end of a 4-0 shutout against Danville.  The Pirates managed only one hit and fanned 14 times.  Starter Hector Garcia gave up two runs on seven hits in three and two-thirds innings.  He struck out five.

-- The DSL Pirates got shut out by the same score against the DSL Marlins.  The DSL Bucs got nine hits, but left 11 on base.  Adrian Valerio was 3-5 and Felix Vinicio 3-4.  Francis Rodriguez gave up one run on three hits in five innings.  He walked none and fanned four.
