International signing season is upon us, and the Pirates have inked righty-hitting Dominican outfielder Yondry Contreras for $400,000, Jesse Sanchez tweets. (Edit: It's $400,000, not $295,000. My fault.) Ben Badler of Baseball America had previously connected the Pirates to Contreras. Like a lot of players who are signing today, Contreras is 16. As with any 16-year-old player, he won't be in the majors anytime soon. This should be one of the Pirates' most significant international signings this year, though, so Contreras bears watching.
Here's some video (watch out for the minute-long intro).
