Pirates MiLB recap: 7/2/14

A couple of GCL rehabs resumed, Bradenton got some big offensive days but almost blew it, and Altoona got a pair of 1st-inning longballs.

-- Indianapolis came back from a 4-0 deficit to tie Louisville in the top of the 8th, but the Bats got a run off Vin Mazzaro in the bottom half to send the Indians to a 5-4 loss.  Starter Casey Sadler gave up four runs on nine hits in five and a third innings.  He walked none and fanned four.  Tony Sanchez was 2-4 with a double, while Chris Dickerson walked twice and hit his seventh HR.  Jaff Decker walked three times, but Jose Tabata, hitting behind Dickerson and Decker, was 0-5.

-- Alen Hanson led off the game with his seventh HR as Altoona topped Bowie, 5-1.  Hanson finished 2-5, Elias Diaz 3-5, and Matt Curry 2-4 with his fourth HR, which also came in the 1st.  Adrian Sampson gave up one run in six innings on eight hits.  He walked none and struck out four.  Keon Broxton left the game limping badly after getting hit in the knee by a pitch.  More on this game in the comments.

-- Bradenton blew a 5-0 lead in the 9th, but scored a walkoff run on a fielder's choice in the 10th to beat Ft. Myers, 6-5.  Max Moroff (pictured) was 3-5 with a double and his first HR.  Josh Bell was 3-5 with a double, Jordan Steranka 2-5 with two doubles, and Eric Wood 2-4 with a double.  Chad Kuhl threw seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits and two walks, and striking out three.  Robby Rowland gave up all five runs in the 9th.

-- West Virginia lost to Hickory, 5-1, on five solo HRs.  Buddy Borden gave up three of them among the five hits he allowed in five innings.  He walked none and struck out eight.  Harold Ramirez didn't play.

-- Jamestown lost to Williamsport, 6-4.  Starter Alex McRae gave up two runs in four innings on three hits and three walks.  He fanned two.  Taylor Gushue was 2-4 with a double.  Jordan Luplow and Chase Simpson were each 1-3 with two walks.  Simpson had a double.

-- The GCL Pirates benefited from a couple of ringers in a 5-4 win over the Tigers.  Austin Meadows was 2-2 with a triple and a walk, to continue his perfect on-base record during his rehab.  Barrett Barnes was 1-2 with a double and three RBIs.  Edgardo Munoz was 2-4 with a double and his first HR.

-- The DSL Pirates shut out the Angels, 2-0.  Starter Yeudy Garcia went five, giving up three hits and a walk, and fanning three.  Sandy Santos was 2-4 and Adrian Valerio 1-2 with a double and two walks.
