The Pirates have signed 16-year-old Panamanian pitcher Brian Sousa for $160,000, Ben Badler reports. Badler writes that Sousa doesn't throw hard yet. He's 6-foot-3 and 165 pounds, though, so there's probably some projection there. He's a sinker/slider pitcher, which fits in well with the Pirates' organizational approach.
Sousa's is the Pirates' second big contract of this year's international signing period -- they also signed Dominican outfielder Yondry Contreras for $400,000.
