The Matt Morris Report: 8/4/14

Buddy Borden pitched well, Nick Kingham didn't, and Altoona was off.

-- Kingham gave up four runs in six innings as Indianapolis lost to Toledo, 4-1.  He allowed seven hits and two walks, and struck out four.  The Indians had only four hits:  a double and a triple by Chase d'Arnaud, and two singles by Jose Tabata.  Starling Marte played center and went 0-4.

-- Bradenton beat Brevard County, 9-6.  Jordan Steranka (pictured) was 2-4 with his seventh HR and four RBIs.  Adam Frazier was 2-5 with two doubles and Max Moroff 2-3 with a double and a walk.  Starter Chad Kuhl gave up six runs, two earned, on seven hits and five walks in four and two-thirds innings.  He struck out one.  Ryan Hafner got the win with two and a third scoreless innings of relief.  He fanned four.  Yhonathan Barrios, who's pitching much better in high A than he did in low A, got a save with two scoreless innings.

-- West Virginia beat Hagerstown, 5-2.  Borden gave up a run on just two hits and two walks in seven innings.  He fanned four.  Austin Meadows was 1-4 with a double.  JaCoby Jones and Reese McGuire were also each 1-4.

-- Jamestown lost the first game of its doubleheader with Lowell, 2-0, in eight innings.  Starter Tyler Eppler threw five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and a walk, and striking out five.  Eric Karch gave up two runs in the 8th to take the loss.  The Jammers had only five hits, three of them by Erik Forgione.

Jamestown also lost the second game, 2-1.  Starter Alex McRae gave up two runs in five innings.  He allowed six hits and walked none.  He fanned three.  Jordan Luplow had half of the Jammers' four hits, including a double.

-- Bristol got destroyed by Greeneville, 12-0.  Jake Burnett had another bad rehab outing, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks in an inning and two-thirds.  Billy Roth also continued to struggle, allowing five runs on four hits and three walks, also in an inning and two-thirds.  Daniel Arribas was 2-4 with a double.

-- The GCL Pirates lost their sixth straight, 7-3, to the Tigers.  Carlos Munoz was 2-5 with a double.  Cole Tucker was 0-5.

-- The DSL Pirates beat the Rangers1, 8-3.  Sandy Santos was 2-4 with a double, a walk, his first HR and three RBIs.  Yunelky Adames was 3-4 with his second HR.  Adrian Valerio was 2-5.  Starter Luis Escobar went four innings and allowed two unearned runs on six hits and one walk.  He fanned four.
