The Matt Morris Report: 8/7/14

Lots of action on Thursday, with two doubleheaders and Tyler Glasnow doing the Playstation thing again.

-- Casey Sadler's recent struggles continued as Indianapolis lost to Rochester, 7-0.  Sadler exited after a 39-pitch 1st inning in which he gave up four runs, two earned, on three hits and a walk.  Jake Brigham returned from his rehab and allowed three runs over five innings in relief.  The Indians had only three hits.  Andrew Lambo didn't play.

-- Altoona blanked Trenton, 5-0.  Jhonathan Ramos allowed just one hit in six innings.  He struck out two.  Keon Broxton and Andy Vasquez each went 2-4.  Broxton had two doubles and Vasquez his eighth HR.  Alen Hanson was 1-4 with a double, Josh Bell 1-5 and Elias Diaz 1-3 with a double and a walk.

-- Glasnow (pictured) threw six innings in Bradenton's seven-inning, 5-0, game one shutout of Jupiter.  He allowed two hits and two walks, and fanned 11.  In 100 innings, Glasnow has now whiffed 122 and allowed 58 hits, just one of them a HR.  Jose Osuna was 2-2 with a walk and Justin Howard 2-3.

The Marauders lost game two, 9-6.  Starter Pat Ludwig got knocked out in the third after allowing five runs, four earned.  Adam Frazier and Eric Wood each went 3-4 with a double.  Jacob Stallings was 2-3.

-- West Virginia was edged by Asheville, 5-4.  JaCoby Jones hit his 17th HR.  Jones, Reese McGuire and Wyatt Mathisen all went 1-3.  Austin Meadows didn't play.  Starter Felipe Gonzalez gave up four runs, three earned, in five innings.

-- Jamestown got by Connecticut, 3-2.  Starter Frank Duncan threw five shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk, and fanning six.  Erik Lunde went 2-4.

-- Bristol lost to Kingsport, 8-7 in the completion of a suspended game.  The game was stopped with the score 7-7, but newly demoted Marek Minarik allowed an unearned run in the 9th to take the loss.  Billy Roth had started the game and exited after three innings having allowed one run on no hits and four walks.  He fanned four.  Maximo Rivera, who's now at West Virginia, was 3-3.  Candon Myles and Enyel Vallejo each had two hits.

Bristol also lost the regularly scheduled game, 3-2.  The Pirates loaded the bases with one out in the 9th, but Eduardo Figueroa hit into a double play.  Starter Omar Basulto threw four and a third scoreless innings, allowing seven hits and two walks, and striking out three.  Nick Buckner was 2-3 with a double and a walk, and Pablo Reyes 2-4 with a walk.

-- The GCL Pirates broke their eight-game losing streak with a 10-1 rout of the Braves.  Four Pirate pitchers allowed just three hits.  Trey Supak started and gave up a run in two and a third innings on two hits and three walks, while striking out one.  A.J. Morris threw three scoreless innings in a rehab outing, giving up a hit and striking out three.  Julio De La Cruz was 3-5 with a double and Cole Tucker 2-4 with a double.  Henrry Rosario was 2-3, and Eric Thomas and Carlos Munoz each 2-4.

-- The DSL Pirates beat the Braves, 4-3.  Richard Mitchell threw five shutout innings (if the box score says differently, it's wrong), allowing two hits and a walk.  He fanned three.  Luis Perez was 2-4 with a double and Yunelky Adames 2-3 with a walk.
