Filed under: names Tyler Glasnow pitching prospect of the year

USA TODAY Sports has named Tyler Glasnow its pitching prospect of the year for the entire minor leagues (hat tip to Tim). The Cubs' Kris Bryant was, unsurprisingly, named the hitting prospect of the year.

Glasnow has obviously had a terrific season, but he spent the year in Class A+ and has never been widely regarded as a top 10 prospect throughout the game, so I'm pleasantly surprised that he's getting this kind of recognition. In the article linked above, Jonathan Mayo notes that Daniel Norris of the Blue Jays, Jimmy Nelson of the Brewers, Henry Owens of the Red Sox, Lucas Giolito of the Nationals and Julio Urias of the Dodgers also received consideration for the pitching prospect of the year award. A lot of pitching prospects who were highly ranked entering the season (Taijuan Walker, Archie Bradley, Noah Syndergaard, Jon Gray, Dylan Bundy) didn't have stat lines that jumped off the page this year, though, so maybe we should have seen this coming. In any case, this is a coup for Glasnow.
