The Pirates had two prospects make Baseball America's list of the top 20 prospects in the Gulf Coast League. Their first-round pick, shortstop Cole Tucker, ranked 11th. Second-round pick RHP Mitch Keller ranked 13th. BA described the talent pool in the league as being long on depth, if not on top-flight prospects.
Tucker, who was a somewhat controversial pick, was one of the youngest players drafted in 2014. He batted 265/367/354 in his pro debut, with a 3:2 K:BB ratio.
Keller took off as a draft prospect this year when his velocity jumped from the upper-80s to the low-90s, topping out at 95. He had moderate control issues off and on in the GCL, but had a 1.98 ERA and fanned over a batter an inning.
