The Pirates will play the Marlins at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan next May 30 and 31, El Nuevo Dia reports (link in Spanish). The two games will be part of a four-game home series for the Marlins, with the other two games being played in Miami. MLB will officially announce the games early next month. In September, Rob Biertempfel reported that the Bucs and Marlins were negotiating to play one or two games in Puerto Rico next season.
The Pirates last played in Puerto Rico in 2004, and it's great that they'll be returning, given their historical connections to the island. It's also terrific that they'll be able to do so without losing any of their home slate. I assume a lot of fans in Puerto Rico will be rooting for the Pirates. (Giancarlo Stanton is partially of Puerto Rican ancestry, which is a story line to watch, although I doubt it will be a huge factor in the crowd's rooting interests.) This is a little like adding a couple extra home games to the Pirates' schedule.
