Athletics claim Andrew Lambo

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Athletics have announced that they've claimed Andrew Lambo on waivers.

Lambo missed most of the season due to injury, but even if he hadn't, it seemed inevitable that he and the Pirates would go their separate ways sooner rather than later. Despite a very good minor league track record (Lambo has an .830 OPS and 32 home runs in 723 career Triple-A plate appearances), he's never caught on in the big leagues, hitting .191/.232/.298 in 99 big-league plate appearances and frequently looking lost at the plate. The Pirates never seemed to have much interest in him, either, even in times when it seemed they could use an extra left-handed power hitter. He will, presumably, have a somewhat clearer shot at playing time with the A's.

The move clears another spot on the Pirates' 40-man roster following the outrights of Brandon Cumpton and Casey Sadler.
