Pirates reassign Tyler Glasnow, four others

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Pirates have announced that they've reassigned pitchers Tyler Glasnow, Adrian Sampson, Angel Sanchez, and Wilfredo Boscan to the minors, along with outfielder Keon Broxton.

Other than one year about a decade ago when the Pirates got upset and sent a reliever down specifically because they weren't happy with his work habits, first rounds of Spring Training cuts are almost never surprising, and this year's are no exception. Glasnow and Sanchez will start the season with Altoona, Neal Huntington says. Glasnow spent the entire 2014 season dominating at Bradenton, so Double-A is the next logical step. Sampson, Boscan and Broxton all spent most or all of 2014 at the Double-A level and had little shot at making the team. I imagine Sampson and Broxton, who performed well last year at Altoona, will begin this year at Indianapolis, although that hasn't been announced yet.

The moves leave a total of 58 players in big-league camp.
