Pirates option or reassign 12 players

The Pirates have optioned or reassigned the following 12 players:

OF Gorkys Hernandez (reassigned)
P Bobby LaFromboise (optioned to Indianapolis)
P Charlie Leesman (reassigned)
P Brad Lincoln (reassigned)
UT Steve Lombardozzi (reassigned)
INF Brent Morel (reassigned)
INF Gustavo Nunez (reassigned)
INF Deibinson Romero (reassigned)
OF Jose Tabata (reassigned)
C Sebastian Valle (reassigned)
P Josh Wall (reassigned)

No surprises here, as all of these players except perhaps LaFromboise looked like obvious minor-league depth heading into camp. We're likely to see LaFromboise in the big leagues at some point -- he's on the 40-man roster, and he got decent results in a tiny sample down the stretch last season. And, of course, the Bucs are pretty likely to promote Tabata again sometime this year, if only because they know his contract allows them to move him back and forth to the minors. Lombardozzi, Lincoln and Morel also might be candidates to play in the big leagues this season.

There are now 36 players in big-league camp, including the injured Brandon Cumpton.
