The Pirates announced after today's 6-4 loss to the Phillies in their final exhibition game that they have placed Charlie Morton on the 15-day DL due to a hip injury. Morton has struggled all spring as he tried to simplify his delivery to put less stress on his hip after having surgery last fall. He was awful today. He threw 70 pitches in 1.2 innings, only 31 for strikes. He gave up four hits, five walks and hit two batters.
The move with Morton means Vance Worley will start the season in the rotation and likely means Stolmy Pimentel gets a reprieve and may now make the final 25-man roster, which needs to be set by 3:00pm Sunday.
